A unique digital identity for a unique education initiative.
The Hyve project, led by North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) in partnership with SMB College Group, Leicester College and Loughborough College, is designed to deliver infrastructure, awareness, and skills training in hydrogen and electric vehicles. With Creative62 being the contracted design agency of NWSLC, the project’s lead partner, they put their trust in us to head up the design responsibilities of turning Hyve from an idea to a fully functioning service offering.
The Goal.
With the group of colleges having freshly been awarded the grant from the government’s Strategic Development Fund to make this project happen, we really were starting from scratch. Goal number one? To come up with a name for the initiative that was of course catchy and memorable, but that stemmed from the collaborative nature of the project. Ultimately, the college group decided on Hyve, as suggested by the Creative62 team. The name reflects the properties of a beehive in which a community works together towards a common goal. Bees hatch in each cell, reflecting the project’s imperative to inspire the next generation of automotive engineers.
Hyve’s vision from day one was to be recognised as the first-choice provider of knowledge
and skills training for automotive and logistics businesses across Leicestershire as they embrace the low carbon technologies that deliver cleaner, greener transport. To do this, they needed a compelling brand in place. That’s, once again, where Creative62 came in!
Next up, the website! The brief was to design a site that acted as a hub for all things Hyve; educating students and prospects about the initiative, advertising each of Hyve’s partners and that listed all of the available courses at each time. Not only did we need to design a website that looked unique and engaging, but we also needed to factor in an element of editability for the college’s marketing teams. Each college required their own access to the back end of the CMS to upload the details of the courses which they offered at their campus. So, what did we do? We delivered a website that was not only nice to look at, but easy to update too!
“Having worked with Creative62 for a number of years at NWSLC, we knew we could trust the team to head up the brand and website design work for the Hyve project. Their amazing communication, rapid design execution, and creative input not only met but exceeded our expectations making them a reliable and invaluable partner in the project. The results they delivered with the brand and site were exceptional, we are so pleased with the final outcome!”
The Process.
Set on a name, it was time to pull together a brand identity that suited the nature of the name and stood out in the educational sector. Tying in the story behind the name of bees hatching in their cells, we created a logo that cleverly resembled the cells that make up honeycomb, and soon after, worked up a fuller brand identity to support. To ensure all of the college groups knew how to utilise the logo and supporting brand correctly and consistently, we created a comprehensive brand guidelines document relaying the rules and best practices for the new brand.

The Result.
This project required comprehensive design support from start to finish, and that’s just what was delivered from the Creative62 team. With a company name that sums up the initiative perfectly, a modern cohesive brand and a smashing website, we look forward to working with Hyve on the projects in the pipeline!
